Through the Glass Ceiling

Through the Glass Ceiling A Ballet by Ivy Chow I.C. Movement Project

When Ivy approached me to compose a ballet dealing with society's systemic gender inequality, I felt unsure how to musically deal with the topic. Fortunately we live in an age of social media where information and view points are easily accessible. With the surge of excitement towards potentially having Hillary Clinton become the first female President of the United States, this was a timely moment to create art to explore this very issue.

I also took this opportunity to explore sounds, combining both modern and classical approaches to music and utilizing electric violin and electric cello as a symbol of both ends of the spectrum coming together to create something unique.

A very special thanks to Ivy for her inspiration, and to the talented musicians, Tina Wang, Nicole Garcia, and Tina Guo, who brought this music to life.
